CAN YOU REMEMBER seeing your first digital camera? I can, and I remember thinking that it was a bit of a gimmick with little to offer me. How wrong I was! Virtually every image in this magazine has been shot digitally, and both professionally and personally I would hate to be without the speed, flexibility and affordability that is part and parcel of digital photography.

You might think I have raised this issue here because of the new photo competition we are running (see p12 for details of that,) but while I very much hope you will be inspired to share your best MG images with us, I’m actually thinking about an exciting new initiative from MGE that will be every bit as revolutionary as the arrival of digital cameras – you can now buy an exact copy of the printed magazine in digital format and download it the minute the issue has been published. The images in the digital version will be just as sharp as they are in the paper magazine, the content and the features will be the same and you can keep it forever just like the paper version, too.

Please, though, don’t worry if all this talk of digital downloads is not your cup of tea. The traditional paper version you are reading now will not be affected by this new format, and the two will work in harmony rather than in competition.  But I am sure the digital version will be of great interest to those readers who live abroad and who have to pay high postal charges to get their magazine delivered – a year’s subscription to the digital issues will cost just £29.99, a figure that will save UK subscribers a useful sum but could more than halve the cost for readers who live abroad.
