We always try to bring you something a little bit different in MGE, and this month we have a couple of crackers for you. First up is our main cover story on the MGF SP Performance Cheetah. Many of you will know about this supercharged super car, but we were lucky enough to visit the current owner of the first two Cheetahs produced, as well of two of the men who built them. All three were a delight to meet, and had some fascinating insights that shed more light on these cars. Our thanks to Bryan Young of www.mgfforum.com for setting this ball rolling – turn to p24 to find out more.
The second feature I want to highlight is Steve Havelock’s one on Megalomania (see p38), the drag racing MGB built in the 1960s in the UK but which has recently resurfaced in Arizona. Steve has put an awful lot of effort into researching this story and contacting the key players who were involved with it, but the end result makes all that effort worthwhile.
As usual, there is much else besides, from news that the Magnette name is being revived (p6) to a glorious sales brochure from the earliest days of MG (p36), from ZT260s on the rolling road at Janspeed (p30) to a reader who has combined his love of MGs with a passion for photography (p72). In fact, there’s been so much to cram in that we have not got room for our usual step-by-step guide. Rest assured though that we will continue to bring you an unrivalled mixture of features of all types. As I write, for example, the very first set of Suplex suspension units are being fitted to an MGF to replace the aging Hydragas units, and we will have a full report and assessment in the next issue. In the meantime, please sit back and enjoy all that we’ve squeezed into this one. Simon Goldsworthy |
